Guitar Masters of the Blue Ridge Concert!
Saturday, May 8 – 7:30 PM – Tickets $12 on sale now!
This event will feature Wayne Henderson, Jack Hinshelwood and Brandon Davis! Three of the best guitar players from this area perform on one stage. Wayne Henderson’s top-notch finger-picking is a source of great pleasure and pride to his friends, family, and neighbors in Grayson County, Virginia; his guitar playing has also been enjoyed at Carnegie Hall, in three national tours of “Masters of the Steel-String Guitar”, and in seven nations in Asia. Jack Hinshelwood began playing traditional music, much of it Appalachian and Bluegrass fiddle tunes, on the guitar in 1972. He found success in numerous guitar contests, winning the Knoxville World’s Fair Guitar Championship, the Galax Fiddler’s Convention Guitar Contest and the Wayne Henderson Guitar Championship. Brandon Davis was born in Galax, Virginia. Living in the musically rich hills of southwest Virginia, he got the opportunity to hear and play with some of the best roots based musicians in the country. Brandon started competing in local contests and fiddlers conventions allowing him the chance to perform and jam with different musicians sharpening his skills. In 1997 Davis competed and won the prestigious Wayne Henderson guitar championship. Don’t miss your opportunity to see these three amazing guitar players share the same stage!
Celebrating 100
It’s a big event: 100 years as a community centered store, and many of those years as a home for traditional music and dancing. Between June 18 and June 27 we’ll have many presentations honoring the history of the store. And all through the year you’ll notice special touches, special products and special events to mark this 100th year. We’d also like to hear from you. Tell us your story about the store or send us a photo of a special moment. We’ll make these part of our country store album collection. Contact us!
Old-Time Country Dance with Mac Traynham
& the Mountain Boomers
Saturday, April 24- 7:30 PM - Tickets $8.00 at the door!
The Mountain Boomers are a stringband in the old-time band tradition of this region. The band first appeared in the late 1980’s when Mac Traynham (banjo) and Shay Garriock (fiddle) teamed up with John Hylton(guitar) and Heidi Blevins (bass) to play at a small fiddler’s convention held in Ivanhoe Virginia. When it comes to old time dance music this band is the real deal with a great repertoire at their fingertips. Come on out and dance the night away with one of our favorite dance bands!
