Join us at the Floyd Country Store on Saturday, June 16, 2018 for a special Americana Afternoon Bluegrass Show with Marteka & William Lake at 12:00pm and Kristi Stanley & Running Blind at 1:30pm. This is a free event.
Marteka & William Lake
Marteka and William are rapidly making a name for themselves in the bluegrass music business; appearing with such people as J D Crowe on the “Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour”, in Lexington, KY. This was aired nationally on PBS and Blue Highways TV, which went into over 90 million homes in America and was broadcasted into 170 countries on the radio.
They have also played on the second longest running radio show in America, The Wheeling Jamboree USA”. They first appeared on the Wheeling Jamboree with Buddy Griffin, and later went back to play their own show. Mr. Griffin said, “Rarely have I seen kids so young with so much talent”.
They have also opened up for Melvin Goins of the Goins Brothers at the Mountaineer Opry House in Milton, WV. Mr. Goins said, “That is some of the smoothest, purest bluegrass I have heard in my 60 years of playing”. Marteka also earlier this year entered in the WV State Banjo contest where she placed 2nd place. They have also won numerous other contests.
“The best young talent to come along in all my years of playing bluegrass”, Raymond Fairchild.
They have also been endorsed by a national banjo company Stelling Banjos. Geoff Stelling, owner of Stelling Banjos built her a one of a kind stelling banjo, and in her honor named the model after her…The Marteka Challenge. At 15-years-old this is an outstanding accomplishment for Marteka and William.
Kristi Stanley & Running Blind
Kristi Stanley grew up in Pikeville Kentucky and is the wife of Ralph Stanley II. As a young girl, she recalls spending hours singing along with the legendary Dolly Parton and dreaming of becoming a big star. She recorded her own renditions of Dolly’s songs, singing them over and over again until every note was perfect. She met Ralph II while she and her family were vacationing in Nashville sitting in on a taping of Prime Time Country. Ralph II was performing with his father, The Late Legendary Dr. Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys. Two years later, the couple were married and have two beautiful children Taylor and Ralph Stanley III. As the children have grown older, she felt it was time to start performing again which is what she has been doing for the past year with her band, Running Blind and turning many heads in the industry.
About Americana Afternoon
Saturday lunch at the store is a special event. Pick up one of our homemade soups or sandwiches, or a plate of farm-fresh salad and find a table near the stage. Starting at noon you can enjoy Americana Afternoons.
The music is varied, but has the common thread of Americana: traditional acoustic music. Some of it is indigenous, including bluegrass, or the music of contemporary singer-songwriters: you might hear the blues, or some of the Celtic or African sounds that underpin our American folk traditions.
This is a free event.
