Autoharp One Day Workshop with John Hollandsworth
April 21 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm| $65
Join us on April 21st, 2018 from 10:00-3:00 for an intensive autoharp workshop with John Hollandsworth. Geared toward intermediate and advanced players, this workshop will take place at The Floyd Country Store. Cost is $65.00. Lunch at The Floyd Country Store is included.
This is a workshop designed for the player who has some experience in melody playing and would like to improve on that. We will also work on playing the autoharp as a rhythm and lead instrument when accompanying a singer or another instrument. Basic and more advanced melody playing techniques will be covered, including the jobs of the right and left hands, efficient finger movements, pick and hand angles to improve tone, and a general concept of how to turn notes into music. Keys used will be C, G, and D. You will need to have an in-tune autoharp, one thumb pick, and two finger picks. If you have any questions prior to the workshop, you can reach John Hollandsworth at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Autoharpist John Hollandsworth is a native of Christiansburg, VA. He had his introduction to the autoharp through the playing of his Floyd County grandmother and uncles, and grew up playing informally with family and friends. His autoharp style incorporates both chromatic and diatonic techniques. John started performing with his wife Kathie in the 1980s as a duo, and they have also played in several band formats for concerts and dances. John was the first Mountain Laurel Autoharp Champion in 1991 and has been named Best All-Around Performer at the Galax Old Fiddlers Convention three times. He is an internationally acclaimed teacher and performer, and is the well-respected luthier of Blue Ridge Autoharps. John was inducted into the Autoharp Hall of Fame in 2010.
