Banjo As A Whole with Rachel Eddy

The Handmade Music School presents Banjo As A Whole with Rachel Eddy on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 3:00pm EDT. The workshop will be presented via Crowdcast as part of our Handmade at Home online series. Cost is $1 to $100 (suggested donation of $15).
Banjo As A Whole with Rachel Eddy

During this workshop we will learn a tune, and use it to explore the deeper levels of playing clawhammer banjo beyond just the notes. There are many aspects of playing including tone, drop-thumb patterns, and phrasing of notes to make a tune groove that will be discussed. Additionally, good mechanics and economy of motion to help make your playing flow smoothly, and avoid repetitive stress injuries will be covered. Regardless of your current playing ability, there will be something useful for everybody at every stage of learning in this workshop!

Rachel Eddy is a native of West Virginia who grew up in a musical family steeped in the traditions of Appalachian music and dance. Now based in Washington, D.C., they are known throughout the world as both a dynamic, emotionally powerful performer and an engaging, thoughtful teacher. Rachel’s soulful singing and multi-instrumental finesse—including fiddle, banjo, guitar, and mandolin—may be heard on numerous solo and collaborative recordings as well as at dances and jam sessions, where Rachel is dedicated to fostering community and sharing a love of music with others.

Please consider a donation to today’s teaching artist and The Handmade Music School (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization). Thanks!
