Floyd Radio Show

December 4, 2021 @ 7:30 pm

Join us for The Floyd Radio Show on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 7:30 pm with hosts Andrew Small & Ashlee Watkins. Special guests include Danny Paisley & The Southern Grass and Bill & The Belles. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 day of show.

About Danny Paisley & The Southern Grass

Danny Paisley and the Southern Grass play powerful, unadorned, and intense traditional bluegrass. There is no hybrid or genre-bending music here. Their combination of instrumentation and vocals convey the energy and emotion of classic bluegrass and country music. Danny’s lead vocals will captivate your senses, so much so that many prominent musicians, including Alison Krauss, have considered Danny as one of their favorite singers. His voice combines powerful range and soulful blues with a sound like no one else in bluegrass today.

About Bill & The Belles

Bill & the Belles have captured the freewheeling, lighthearted approach to music that has endeared them to listeners of every generation. With a spirited sound that effortlessly combines influences from American music’s past including old-time country, girl group 60s pop, crooners and more, the group has come up with a unique musical formula that is all their own. Bill and the Belles play alongside America’s top country and roots music artists as the house band for the historic PBS television program Farm and Fun Time presented by Radio Bristol. It’s clear this group shares a rare musical connection and deep love for the music, and their excitement is contagious.

About Hosts Andrew Small & Ashlee Watkins

Born and raised in eastern North Carolina, Andrew Small is a multi-instrumentalist and singer who has performed with artists ranging from Sierra Hull and Mandolin Orange to the North Carolina Symphony. He now resides in Floyd, VA where he serves as Coordinator of the Handmade Music School and also tours with the group Bill and the Belles. Singing and performing on mandolin and fiddle with his wife Ashlee Watkins as the New Macedon Rangers, Andrew is a regular performer for Friday Night Jamborees at the Floyd Country Store. Andrew has won numerous blue ribbons from fiddlers’ conventions around the Southeast for his old-time fiddling and in 2015 was named the Bluegrass Mandolin Champion of Australia. He holds a master’s degree in music performance from Yale University.

Ashlee Watkins is a singer and multi-instrumentalist originally from Newcastle, NSW. Described by fiddler Bob Herring as having “it”, her powerfully unadorned vocals possess a timeless quality that evokes an uncommon emotional poignance. She has been awarded a number of blue ribbons from fiddlers’ conventions around the southeast for her folk singing and old-time banjo playing, and her band the New Macedon Rangers has been awarded blue ribbons in both old-time and bluegrass band categories. Now making her home in Floyd, Virginia, Ashlee also performs as a member of Jackson Cunningham’s string band Nobody’s Business.
