Jared Boyd

The Handmade Music School presents an intermediate banjo workshop with Jared Boyd on Saturday, March 28, 2020 from 3:30-5:00pm. Cost is $30.

Jared Boyd

This workshop will focus on a few regionally local tunes phrase-by-phrase, as well as some clawhammer techniques and licks you can add to your playing to give it more character/variety. Attendees are expected to be able to learn by ear or by watching, as no tablature or written notation will be provided (audio-recording devices welcome).

Jared grew up in the small community of Laurel Fork in Carroll County, VA and spent the early years of his life surrounded by old-time music on both sides of his family. His first banjo teacher was Ray Chatfield through the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) program, but he also learned from his grandfather Jimmy Boyd, co-founder of the Franklin County old-time dance band, The Dry Hill Draggers. His playing has also been influenced by clawhammer players such as Kyle Creed, Adam Hurt, and Eddie Bond. Jared currently plays with the Twin Creeks String Band, an offshoot of The Dry Hill Draggers named after fiddler Chris Prillaman’s distillery.
