Old Time Guitar Workshop with Rachel Eddy
September 21 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
The Handmade Music School presents Old Time Guitar: Shaping the Tune with Bass Notes and Runs with Rachel Eddy on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 3:00pm EDT. The workshop will be presented via Crowdcast as part of our Handmade at Home online series. Cost is a minimum contribution of $5 (suggested donation of $15).
In this intermediate workshop, we will be discussing how to choose which bass notes to play in order to shape your accompaniment around a piece of music. We’ll start by going through the alternating bass notes of several keys, and the bass runs that go along with them. I’ll make suggestions about which fingers to use for the best economy of motion, and include ideas on good mechanics that create less strain on your hand and offer easier access to whatever comes next! We will use a familiar tune/song to work through all the ideas and hopefully give you new tools to improve your guitar playing.
Rachel Eddy is a native of West Virginia who grew up in a musical family steeped in the traditions of Appalachian music and dance.
