Survey of Slide Guitar with Hubby Jenkins
January 21, 2021 @ 3:00 pm
The Handmade Music School presents Survey of Slide Guitar with Hubby Jenkins on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 3:00 EST. The workshop is presented via Crowdcast as part of our Handmade at Home online series. Cost is $1 to $100 (suggested donation of $15).
The distinctive sound of blues playing on a guitar with a bottleneck slide has its roots in Hawaii, and in the Diddley bow and other one-stringed ancestors in Africa. In this workshop, Hubby will explain proper slide technique and explore different styles of his favorite pre-war slide musicians.
Hubby Jenkins is a talented multi-instrumentalist who endeavors to share his love and knowledge of old-time American music. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he delved into his southern roots by following the thread of African American history that wove itself through America’s traditional music forms. As an integral member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops and later Rhiannon Giddens’ band, Hubby has performed at festivals and venues around the world, earning both Grammy and Americana award nominations. Today he spreads his knowledge and love of old-time American music through his dynamic solo performances and engaging workshops.
