Your Evening Dose of Dylan!
If you love the songs of Bob Dylan, then mark your calendars now for Saturday, March 14th! The Floyd Country Store will be hosting a “Dose of Dylan” evening starting at 7:30 PM. with a great lineup of talent to deliver some of Dylan’s most well-known, as well as some of his more eclectic, songs.
The host band “Souvenirs” consists of David Cannaday (event coordinator & music instructor at the Floyd Country Store), Dave Fason (formerly with the band Windfall), Rob Neukirch (musician & actor, recently in The House of Good & Evil), Rusty May (also formerly from Windfall). They will be performing songs as well as backing up some wonderful guest singer/songwriters, including: BigMama Joy, Luke & Abby, Seph & TK and Laurel Brooke. They will be joined by John Wilson for the Grand Finale.
For over 50 years, Bob Dylan has remained one of the most influential American musicians rock & roll has ever produced. Inscrutable and unpredictable, Dylan has been both deified and denounced for his shifts of interest, while whole schools of musicians took up his ideas. His lyrics — the first in rock to be seriously regarded as literature — became so well known that politicians from Jimmy Carter to Vaclav Havel have cited them as an influence.
By personalizing folk songs, Dylan reinvented the singer-songwriter genre; by performing his allusive, poetic songs in his nasal, spontaneous vocal style with an electric band, he enlarged pop’s range and vocabulary while creating a widely imitated sound. By recording with Nashville veterans, he helped give rise to Seventies country-rock. In the 1980s and 1990s, although he often seemed to flounder, he still had the ability to challenge, influence, and surprise the listener — something he did more reliably in the late 1990s and 2000s, when he recorded some of the greatest music of his career.
Plan on coming out to The Floyd Country Store and hearing some of your favorite Dylan songs and even singing along! Tickets are $10 at the store or online.
Please note that Bob Dylan will not be attending or performing at this event.
