It’s simply fun to spend an evening with The Whitetop Mountain Band. And they are not just a favorite at this store: they recently won “Entertainer of the Year” for Old Time Group at the ACMA Blue Ridge Uprising Event. Not to mention that earlier this year they were presented with a bill passed by the Senate and House commending the Whitetop Mountain Band for their contribution to mountain music.
The band is one of the icons of traditional Appalachian Music. Emily and Thornton Spencer originally joined the Whitetop Mountain Band of the legendary fiddler, Albert Hash, in 1977 and have been having fun with music and dancing ever since. Today’s band still features Thornton Spencer on fiddle and Emily Spencer on banjo and vocals along with Martha Spencer on guitar, fiddle, banjo and vocals, Ersel Fletcher on guitar and vocals and Debbie Brammer on bass. You are also likely to see some fine flat-foot dancing from Martha and Debbie.
Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a real old-time mountain dance at the Floyd Country Store. It starts at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $8 at the door.
