We like to say “life is short, eat dessert first.” When it’s summer time and the Soda Fountain is open at the Floyd Country Store, it’s easy to live by those words.
The Soda Fountain offers classic favorites such as specialty ice cream sodas, milkshakes, malts, sundaes, ice cream sandwiches and even homemade waffles. Many of the toppings, waffle cones, and desserts are made in-house. Some of these delicious creations such as the “John Brown’s Dream” sundae and the “Golden Slippers” lemon soda float refer to the fiddle tunes we know and love from our local music traditions.
Emphasis on the local doesn’t stop with the fiddle tune desserts, though. The physical space was in large part built and designed by local artists and businesses. Bill St Pierre crafted the large menu board that takes up one of the walls from reclaimed wood, and built the bench seating on the opposite wall. The tabletops and counters were created by Phoenix Hardwoods. The classic painting on the windows, doors, and the wooden building sign were done by the talented sign-painter Greg Locke. Each of the flavors on the big menu board were printed by Finn Graphics.
As summer wears on, we look forward to sharing this bright space and these tasty, refreshing creations with kids of all ages who find themselves in Floyd, sweet Floyd.
