Second Saturday Old-Time Country Dances

Whitetop Mountain Band

Come and join us the second Saturday of every month for old-time country dance night. Dances start at 7:30 pm and continues until the last note is played, usually around 10:30pm. We can also expect some great dancers on the floor to fire the bands up even more! Soup, sandwiches, ice cream, baked goods and snacks will be on sale throughout the evening to keep you going. It’s fun to dance and it’s fun to watch, so come on down and join us.

May 9, 2015 with Whitetop Mountain Band

The Whitetop Mountain Band is a family-based band from the highest mountains of Virginia. Whitetop, Virginia is an area rich in the old time music tradition; this band has deep roots in mountain music. The members have done much to preserve the Whitetop region’s style of old time fiddling and banjo picking and are legendary musicians and teachers of the style. At the same time, Whitetop Mountain Band shows are very versatile and entertaining containing everything from fiddle/banjo instrumentals to powerful solos and harmony vocals on blues, classic country, honky tonk, traditional bluegrass numbers, old timey ballads, originals, and four part mountain gospel songs. Shows also include flat foot dancing. The band is well known for their high energy and charisma on stage.

June 13, 2015 with The Indian Run String Band

The Indian Run String Band is an old-time string band from Blacksburg, VA. Members include Paul Herling on fiddle and vocals, Ginger Wagner on banjo and vocals, Kristie Dorfler on bass, and Mark Barbour on guitar. The band features hard-driving old-time music for flat-footin’ numbers, waltzes, two-steps, and old time songs. From dance tunes to the blues, the Indian Run String Band plays with love and abandon. They make old-time music fresh and new.

July 11, 2015 with The Crooked Road Ramblers

The Crooked Road Ramblers are an old-time band from Southwest Virginia, steeped in the traditional music of the Blue Ridge. They have played at the Carter Family Fold, the Wayne Henderson Festival, HoustonFest, The Floyd Country Store & many other venues across Virginia and North Carolina. They have won 1st place in the old-time band category at the Ashe County, Alleghany County, Laurel Bloomery, Fries & Union Grove Fiddlers Convention in addition to a 2nd place finish at the Galax Fiddlers convention. They were also named the old time instrumental group of the year at the 2014 Blue Ridge Acoustic Uprising.
