Betty and Jimmy Boothe: A Floyd Love Story

Betty & Jimmy Boothe

There aren’t too many people we know who can say they have been married for 63 years! On this Valentine’s Day we would like to honor Friday Night fixture’s Betty and Jimmy Boothe. They have been coming to the Friday Night Jamboree for over 30 years! This past Friday we asked them if we could share their story today and a little bit of what it takes to make a marriage last.

Jimmy was born and raised in Floyd and Betty moved to Floyd when she was just a teenager. They met when they Betty was 15 years old and Jimmy was 19. Jimmy’s sister introduced them and because Jimmy was so shy, he would pass notes to his sister to give to Betty. They started dating and just one year later they were married on July 6, 1960. Betty was the only woman Jimmy ever dated.

Betty’s parents had to give special permission for them to marry since she was so young, but she said her parents loved him and were completely for the courtship. When we asked them what’s the secret to a long marriage, Betty said, “we’ve had our share of ups and downs and bumps in the road, but we always built trust in each other.” They also said, “we always take care of each other.” They have two children and ten grandchildren whom they love dearly.

Here at the store we all get the pleasure of seeing the two of them together on the dance floor most every Friday night! Thank you Jimmy and Betty for being a part of our Floyd Country Store family and setting such a beautiful example of what loving each other means.

We love you and wish all of you out there in the world Love and peace on this Valentine’s Day!
